At that time I was a cacao rookie that turned up at his chocolate factory looking a bit too cool with my drivers cap and scarf and told him I wanted to help Solomon Islands cocoa farmers.  He gave me a massive reality check on the challenges ahead and basically told me to give up and save myself the pain. I walked away pretty shellshocked but even more determined to succeed. We've stayed in touch over my journey and he came over today to pick up a few bags of Solomon Islands cacao beans. Now with experience, I can see how almost everything he told me was spot on.  We had a good laugh about that and how I went ahead anyway! Not the end of the story for either of us, but nice that we understand our important role as industry players in improving livelihoods for cacao farmers in the South Pacific.
